چکیده
A new approach to protodecarboxylation is described that enhances the substrate scope for benzoic acids. The reaction uses oxidative radical conditions to decarboxylate a variety of acids in acetonitrile.

Ruthenium-Catalyzed Peri- and Ortho-Alkynylation with Bromoalkynes via Insertion and Elimination
The alkynylation of naphthols takes place with total regiocontrol at the peri position of the hydroxyl group in the presence of [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 as the catalyst. This reaction features high functional group tolerance. The related ortho-alkynylation of benzoic acids proceeds under similar conditions and also shows wide functional group tolerance. Both reactions proceed through metalation, inse...
متن کاملA nitro-hunsdiecker reaction: from unsaturated carboxylic acids to nitrostyrenes and nitroarenes.
[reaction: see text] The nitrodecarboxylation of aromatic alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acids and ring-activated benzoic acids can be achieved using nitric acid (3 equiv) and catalytic AIBN (2 mol %) in MeCN. From the effect of various additives, the nitrodecarboxylation is postulated to involve the generation of an acyloxy radical RCO(2)(*) by a NO(3)(*) radical followed by attack of a NO(...
متن کاملIdentification of the products of oxidation of quercetin by air oxygen at ambient temperature.
Oxidation of quercetin by air oxygen takes place in water and aqueous ethanol solutions under mild conditions, namely in moderately-basic media (pH approximately 8-10) at ambient temperature and in the absence of any radical initiators, without enzymatic catalysis or irradiation of the reaction media by light. The principal reaction products are typical of other oxidative degradation processes ...
متن کاملSilver-catalysed protodecarboxylation of carboxylic acids.
A silver-based catalyst system has been discovered that effectively promotes the protodecarboxylation of various carboxylic acids at temperatures of 80-120 degrees C--more than 50 degrees C below those of the best known copper catalysts.
متن کاملDehalogenation and biodegradation of brominated phenols and benzoic acids under iron-reducing, sulfidogenic, and methanogenic conditions.
The anaerobic biodegradation of monobrominated phenols and benzoic acids by microorganisms enriched from marine and estuarine sediments was determined in the presence of different electron acceptors [i.e., Fe(III), SO4(2-), or HCO3-]. Under all conditions tested, the bromophenol isomers were utilized without a lengthy lag period whereas the bromobenzoate isomers were utilized only after a lag p...
